VPN Kill Switch Test

Does your VPN service have a kill switch? A kill switch should ensure no traffic passes through if your VPN drops due to a power cut, broadband outage, weak Wi-Fi signal, or other interruptions. Test your installed VPN software here.

How to Test

Connect to your VPN and click Start Session. The web page will display your IP address, country, and VPN status. You can then try:

Reconnect and check the log to see if your real IP address leaks. This is monitored every few seconds, and you can also try Aggressive Mode, which checks more frequently; however, this mode only lasts for several seconds before automatically stopping.

Run this test multiple times to cover different scenarios. Use ip.me on a non-VPN-connected browser or device on the same network to verify your real IP. Alternatively, use the "Get Real IP" button below if you're willing to temporarily disconnect your VPN and kill switch. However, if your real IP appears after starting the test, it means a leak has occurred.

Some vendors don't consider disconnections and restarts by the user as something that the kill switch should cover. Make sure you are familiar with your vendor's approach if you wish to maintain your privacy.

Note that this site tests IPv4 only... it is recommended to disable IPv6 when connecting to VPNs.
